KUALA LUMPUR, 17 August 2021 – UMW Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, UMW Innovation and R&D Centre Sdn. Bhd. (“UIRDC”) has entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation (“MoC”) with SIRIM Berhad, an agency under the purview of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, to form a strategic collaboration particularly in the areas of innovation and technology.
Capitalising on the MoC, the UMW Group aims to foster technological advancement through SIRIM’s Industrial Centre of Innovation and Technology. Among the identified key areas of potential collaboration are Smart Manufacturing, Nanotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology as well as Testing, Inspection & Certification. The essence of the strategic collaboration encompasses scientific industrial research, provision of technology transfer and consultancy services as well as the development of new Malaysian standards.
Through this collaboration, the UMW Group would gain access to SIRIM’s expertise in the development of standards which is at the forefront of technology innovation for various industries. Furthermore, both parties will be cooperating in technical expertise and training which will lead to execution of projects as well as commercialisation of products.
The MoC signing was executed virtually today between Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad and Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President and Group CEO of UMW Holdings Berhad.
Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad said the collaboration, among others, will provide SIRIM and UMW a platform to explore potential areas such as in Industry 4.0, fabrication of machinery and equipment, renewable energy and environmental technology.
“Through UIRDC, we hope to work with the relevant industries and stakeholders, to provide consultancy and technical assistance in technology, recommending proposals and intervention plans for nurturing the upstream, middle and downstream industry; and the application of SIRIM’s technology, innovative solutions or adoption of other technology to specific target groups. Areas that we can explore include Industry 4.0 solutions and water filtration technology for industry and community use,” he added.

("UIRDC") telah memeterai Memorandum Kerjasama ("MoC") dengan SIRIM Berhad, sebuah agensi di bawah bidang kuasa Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri, untuk membentuk kerjasama strategik terutamanya dalam bidang inovasi dan teknologi.
Dengan memanfaatkan MoC ini, Kumpulan UMW mensasarkan untuk memajukan kemudahan teknologi melalui Pusat Inovasi Industri dalam Pembuatan Pintar SIRIM. Antara bidang utama yang dikenal pasti sebagai sebahagian daripada kolaborasi yang berpotensi ialah Pembuatan Pintar, Teknologi Nano, Perindustrian Bioteknologi serta Pengujian, Pemeriksaan & Pensijilan. Intipati daripada kerjasama strategik ini merangkumi perindustrian penyelidikan secara saintifik, perkhidmatan memindahkan sesebuah teknologi dan perundingan serta mewujudkan sistem piawaian Malaysia yang baru
Melalui kolaborasi ini, Kumpulan UMW akan mendapat akses kepada kepakaran SIRIM dalam mewujudkan sistem piawaian yang terulung dalam inovasi teknologi untuk kegunaan pelbagai jenis industri. Selain dari itu, kedua-dua pihak akan bekerjasama dari segi kepakaran teknikal dan kemahiran latihan yang akan membawa kepada pelaksanaan projek serta pengkomersialan produk.
Pemeteraian MoC dijalankan secara maya pada hari ini antara Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, Presiden dan Ketua Eksekutif Kumpulan SIRIM Berhad dan Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Presiden dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Kumpulan UMW Holdings Berhad.

Kawasan yang dapat diterokai meliputi teknologi Industri 4.0, teknologi penyaringan air untuk penggunaan industri dan masyarakat.”
